ARTISTIC STYLE: "I mostly do native art, the majority of which is Hopi arts & designs; the very designs that have been passed down to me throughout the years." FAVORITE SUBJECT MATTER: "Currently my subject matter is about the Hopi Prophecy. I focused on this based on what I am seeing lately; how things are happening in our world today. The very teachings that my grandfather passed on to my, seems to be coming to pass." FAVORITE ARTISTS: "My favorite artist, of course, is my father Leroy Kewanyama, and I would have to say Artist Hopid who consists of the original 5 Hopi artists Michael Kabotie, Delbridge Honanie, Milland Lomakema, Neil David Sr., and Terrence Talaswaima." ARTISTIC JOURNEY: "I grew up learning art my initiations into various Hopi ceremonies which involved drawing, painting, silversmithing, and sculpture." |
PERSONAL PHILOSOPHY: "My love for the arts came down to me through my people and the ceremonies that we still old onto. So just the idea of having my work looked at by the public is more than enough for me. In a way, it is the teachings that I pass on when someone asks me to explain my art."
SHOWS & GALLERIES: "Mostly, I try to exhibit my works at MAG, Prescott Fine Arts Association, Veterans Festival (Prescott), and at Yavapai College." OTHER INTERESTS: "I love listening to pow wow music, and going out home to the Rez to participate in our ceremonies." |
