Open to all levels of experience.

Create unique pottery pieces and finish them using "backyard" low fire techniques.  The first two days will take place at the Mountain Artists Guild. The last day will be at Carol Studio adjacent to the Guild building.

Schedule:

  • Demo each morning

  • First 2 Days: Work on individual pieces
     

  • Third Day (Note -- this last day is the following week):
    Decorate, stain and glaze & fire
    This Release form must be signed and return to Carol Commins before the third day of class to participate in the firing.

  • Last Afternoon - class critique will be conducted

  • Students are invited to bring their own lunch, or break for lunch from noon to 1 PM

Materials:

      NOTE: all clay, glazes, stains, and firing
                  are included in the cost of the workshop

  • Basic Ceramic Tool Kit (available at the Art Store)

  • A flat wooden paddle (kitchen item)

  • An apron, shirt or smock

  • Small margarine container for water

  • A hand towel

  • Any texturing materials (stamps, laces, wood bark, netting, etc. )

Materials list is suggested only.  Emphasis here in on technique rather than a required material list.

Carol Commins was born in Waterloo, Iowa.  She received a BA from the University of Northern Iowa and an MA from Arizona State University.

After teaching for 18 years in Wisconsin and Arizona she began a career in the arts as a potter in Colorado. She has made her living as a potter for over 20 years.

Carol currently resides in Prescott, AZ where she runs a studio and teaches ceramics part time at Yavapai College and on board cruise ships.
